Hot Rod

And now another update in my never ending battle to achieve the perfect mermaid hair.

I was on amazon the other night getting some hair maintenance essentials (yes, I got my heat protectant as well... athankyou) and I came across a $200 clipless curling iron marked down to an unmentionable price (even lower right now... grr). Add that to free shipping and heat glove included? Needless to say, I jumped on the deal.

I will tell you know that I just had the best hair day of my life. I had learned a while back about the technique of simply wrapping your hair around the barrel of your curling iron, versus the usual method of clamping and twirling, to get more natural looking curls/waves. Sometimes it would work perfectly, other times there would be funny little bumps. With the curling wand, all the guess work is gone and in my first try I had flawless curls. I actually had to finger comb them out a bit to relax them! Definitely recommend.

The product it's self was awesome. I had one reservation since it had no heat control, just an on off switch. After using it, I saw no issues with the heat. It warmed up quickly and certainly delivered results. The glove worked well protecting fingers against the hot iron, but I would not recommend touching the iron for long periods of time, as you can still feel the heat through the material. No slip issues using the glove either.

Alls I can say is, if your hair is anything like mine (thin, straight, limp) then this tool is your Salvaion.

Jose Eber Curling Iron, Pink, 25mm

P.S. I am writing this post the morning after my first use, and my curls are still intact. Not day 1 curls, but totally wearable, dare I say... beachy waves. Love this tool!

Line I'm Loving: Reiss

When searching for a dress recently worn by Taylor Swift (I know, I know, but the girl has some cute dresses! see pic bottom), I found this line that I'm really loving. UK label Reiss is a little pricey, but the line is amaze. I'm focusing on dresses...

Do try this at home

So one of my girlfriends came in to work yesterday with fabulous wavy hair a la Rachel Zoe. Now this particular friend suffers from the same affliction I have: volumelessiasis (to the lay person - flat-ass hair).
"Your hair looks amazing," I said. "What did you do to it?'
A little sheepishly she responded, "Actually, I went on YouTube and watched videos on how to get beachy waves." She went on to tell me that she looked up "Nicole Richie" hair and "waves with a flat iron". Not one to be out of the loop, last night I watched (literally) hours of these mini tutorials. Aside from the obvious techniques I learned, two additional things I took from these videos:

1. I need to get some sort of heat protectant to apply pre-styling. Yes, I have heard of this product. And yes, thinking about it, it's use makes perfect sense. But why am I not using this already? Everyone and there mother seems to know about protecting their hair before styling...damn. I WILL get on this immediately.

2. Product! Product! Product! Another duh moment for me. But still. Right? So I read about all these products in magazines etc claiming to do amazing things for your hair, but they so seldomly produce what they claim that it becomes tiresome. Plus you don't want to weigh your hair down if it's already low energy. Here's a thought Rach, use products sparingly and with specific purposes.

Moving on. This morning I decided to try all that I have learned (minus the heat protectant - again, on my shopping list). I have to say my hair was fluffy and wavy, plus it lasted all day! It was super easy, taking less that 20 mins (time will definitely decrease with practice). I couldn't have hoped for more! Thank you YouTube!

Here are the two videos I found most useful (but it was really a combination of all the videos)

This girl is so cute, I liked watching her other videos too!
More crimpy and less beachy, but this girl has the technique down!

Enjoy!

Products I used: Pureology PureVolume shampoo (no conditioner in the shower), Pureology Atifade Complex spray (all over), Moroccan Oil (all over, focusing on the ends), Bumble & Bumble Styling Creme (on the roots for lift), Loreal Elnett Hairspray (on sections after flat ironing), Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray (all over at the end to create a piecey beachy look). Faves!

Styling a friend.

Last week, one of my great friends was to attend the annual Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair Party and was freaking out about what to wear. So, as any good friend who works in the biz would do, I styled her for the event. She is below with her father, the CCO of the festival. Reid is wearing a vintage Ralph Lauren floral dress, Dolce Vita heels (mine, a gift from Ms. Merryman) and a vintage snakeskin clutch (mine too!) I added to to decrease the sweetness of the look. With spring makeup and easy hair, I must say, she fit right in. xoxo dc

This may be all I want in life
